All the Queen's Ravens at Hootananny

Here's 3 of the fantastic All the Queen's Ravens performances last friday at the Hootananny
(interesting effect: due to strange light and Charlie's sun?-what's-sun?-complexion she appears to be black and white)

All the Queen's Ravens

Finally got to see this band live

all the queen's ravens 5

They're called All the Queen's Ravens, fronted by the fantastic Charlie and Laura

charlie and laura of all the queen's ravens bw

with the awesome Luke on guitar

luke of all the queen's ravens

and a really strong drum'n'bass section

Normally they have a bigger line-up and play amplified, so it's a real testament to their rock-your-socks-off abilities that the songs were strong as ever unplugged and bare. Here's an example of the band in full swing

apple down

apple down

Did a practice dive for the Superman apple project, and i liked the footage, especially in combination with this song that had been on my mind for something like this dive. So i made another video, kind of the darker brother of the superman vid. But it is an odd combination, the semi-seriousness of this all, done with apple in mouth.

drifting

Shot with cellphone yesterday in Rotterdam, while waiting for the bus. Ever since seeing that scene in American Beauty, i was hoping to be able to shoot something like it. Missed the bus because of it.

Music is 'Spiegel im Spiegel', by Arvo Pärt.

"And this bag was just... dancing with me. Like a little kid begging me to play with it. For fifteen minutes. That's the day I realized that there was this entire life behind things, and this incredibly benevolent force that wanted me to know there was no reason to be afraid. Ever."

~ American Beauty, script by Alan Ball

Tilly and the Wall

Much as i love a melancholic tune and much as sad songs say, i do think they're starting to enhance an already rather gloomy mood. So maybe the opposite works too; maybe, by listening to more cheerful music, a more dapper ditty, my mood will elevate. This one really had some short term effect already:

C'est Cibelle

It's not often that i'm jealous, but when i heard the first line of this song, i wished i wrote it. "Lay your head where my heart used to be, on the earth above me." When Tom Waits sings it, you barely hear what he's talking about, cause he's doing his usual barking, but this is Cibelle's version, and i have yet to stop listening to it. It has been on almost all my playlists of the last year
